Image Workshop Help

1. Drag an image into the Image Preview area, or click the upload area to choose a file.
2. Select a tool from the menu above the image.
3. Make your changes and preview the result.
4. Use Undo or Redo if required.
5. When finished, click Download Image.

Privacy: Image Workshop works in your browser. Your image is not uploaded to CS17 for editing.

Resize changes the pixel dimensions of an image. Enter a width or height, use a percentage, or select a standard image size.

• Lock aspect ratio keeps the image in its original proportions.
• Quick percentage buttons make common reductions or enlargements faster.
• When a standard size does not match the shape of your image, Image Workshop asks how you want it fitted.

Trim to Fit keeps the image proportional and trims excess edges. Distort to Fit stretches the image to the exact dimensions. For square output, you can also fit the complete image inside a square.

For most photographs, Trim to Fit gives the most natural result.

Crop removes unwanted areas around an image. Adjust the crop box using its handles, position it over the area you want to keep, then apply the crop.

The image preview can be zoomed while you work, making precise crops easier.

The Transform tab combines several common image actions.

• Rotate: turn the image left, right, 180°, or use a custom angle.
• Flip: mirror the image horizontally or vertically.
• Convert: change the output format to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.

Quality controls appear where they are relevant to the selected file format.

Compression reduces the image file size. Move the quality control and Image Workshop will calculate the expected compressed size as you adjust it.

You can compare the original file size, compressed size and percentage saving before applying the change.

Lower quality usually creates a smaller file. For important photographs, reduce quality gradually and check the image before downloading.

Upscale enlarges an image using higher-quality resizing and sharpening. Choose the available enlargement level and apply it once to the current image.

Very large images are protected by size limits to reduce the chance of the browser running out of memory.

Upscaling can improve the appearance of an enlargement, but it cannot recreate every detail that was missing from the original image.

Use Adjust for visual corrections such as brightness, contrast, saturation and other available image adjustments. Make small changes and use the preview to judge the result.

The Markup tab contains three editing tools. Select Text, Draw / Shapes or Watermark. Only the controls for the selected tool are displayed.

• Text: add editable text, choose the font, style, size and position.
• Draw / Shapes: add freehand marks, circles, squares, rectangles, arrows and blur areas. Objects can be selected, moved, resized or deleted.
• Watermark: add watermark text and control its position and opacity.

The colour selector is shared by the Markup tools. Existing editable objects appear in the Objects list beside the image.

Select Border to browse the available frame styles beside the image. Choose a border, set its size and colour where applicable, then click Add Selected Border.

If you added a border during the current editing session, choose another style and use Change Selected Border to replace it.

• Use the + and − controls or the mouse wheel over the preview to zoom.
• When zoomed in, drag/pan the image to reach another area.
• Fit returns the image to a convenient preview size.
• 1:1 displays the image at its pixel-based viewing scale.
• Undo reverses recent editing actions and Redo reapplies them.

The Info tab shows information about the current image. Use View Changes to see a chronological list of changes made during the editing session.

This is useful for reviewing the order of resizing, cropping, rotating, adjustments, markup, borders, compression and other edits before downloading.

When you click Download Image, Image Workshop asks how you want to save it.

• Save keeps the original filename and uses the correct extension for the selected output format.
• Save As… lets you enter a new filename before downloading.
• Cancel returns to the editor without downloading.

For example, if holiday-photo.png is converted to JPG, Save will download it as holiday-photo.jpg.

High-resolution images can require a large amount of browser memory. Image Workshop includes safeguards for unusually large images and resize operations.

If a large operation may be risky, follow the on-screen warning and consider using a smaller output size. Closing unnecessary browser tabs can also leave more memory available for large editing jobs.

Image Workshop supports common browser image formats including JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG and ICO, with additional browser-based support for TIFF and HEIC/HEIF.

Animated GIFs are treated as a still image during editing. Format support can also depend on the browser and device being used.

• If an image will not open, try converting it to JPG or PNG first.
• If a very large image causes the browser to slow down, reload Image Workshop and use a smaller working size.
• If a change is not wanted, try Undo before resetting the image.
• If the downloaded file is too large, use Compress or resize the image to smaller pixel dimensions.
• If text or markup is difficult to position, zoom into the image before moving the object.
